Supporting Human Respect, One Cause at a Time

You Are The Power was founded with one purpose: to find people who are being abused by unchecked government officials, and to focus public pressure on those officials to back off and treat people with respect.
In the past year, we have had a 100% success rate.
That isn’t just an impressive metric; it represents people whose lives were saved from being turned upside down.
The following are the stories of some of the individuals we have assisted in the past year. Families have been reunited, charges have been dismissed, officials have resigned, and charities have been permitted to continue their work, among other outcomes.
Family Reunification

The Hernandez Family - Forsyth County, GA
Matt and Tuckey Hernandez were the first Georgia family to reach out to us for help when their daughters, Emma and Arya, were taken from them after a Child Abuse Pediatrician mistook injuries caused by a medical condition for abuse. Our campaign to return their children home would open the floodgates of similar cases nationwide, leading to the creation of our Family Reunification Program and partnership with DFCS to enact Ridge’s Law. A simliar law named for another family we are supporting, The Patterson’s law, is currently working towards passage in Florida.
After 3 years of fighting, the Hernandez family is reunited once more.

The Clarke Family - Camden County, GA
In 2023, Damani and Shelby Clarke’s lives were turned upside down when a visit to a children’s hospital in Jacksonville, FL led to false allegations of abuse. Despite being cleared by law enforcement and supported by sound independent medical evidence, the state removed Anariah from her parents and fought to terminate their parental rights.
This victory is a testimony to the truth and a stark reminder that false accusations fracture factually innocent families.
After 764 days, Anariah is finally where she belongs; in the arms of her loving parents.

The Sullivan Family - Camden County, GA
Corey and Diana Sullivan endured the unimaginable for 19 months, but in May, 2025, their nightmare ended with the closure of their case.
Like many families we support, their nightmare began at a children’s hospital, being falsely accused of child abuse. Their child Amelia, had in utero complications and medical condtions that led to fractures and other health issues. A Child Abuse Pediatrician declared them the result of abuse rather than conduct further testing.
This set into motion a legal fight that lasted nearly 600 days, and almost resulted in them losing their children forever.

The Collins Family - Coweta County, GA
Thanks to the efforts of many individuals, Casey, Bailey and Ridge Collins are now reunited.
Our respectful and repeated correspondence with DCFS Commissioner Candice Broce led to policy changes protecting a family’s right to a second opinion and on February 28th, 2025, a bill now known as Ridge’s Law in honor of their son passed unanimously in committee and has been signed into law by Governor Kemp. This will enshrine the policy dictated by DFCS into law, ensuring parental rights and proper investigation.

The Timms Family - Calhoun, GA
A Not Guilty verdict vindicated Brady and Carrie. They did not abuse their son, Jameson; he has a rare genetic condition. The truth was on their side – the truth that law enforcement, child protective services, child abuse pediatricians, and prosecutors tried to corrupt and manipulate. After 1,180 days, Jameson is home once more with his brother and parents.
The leadership team in Georgia did their due diligence, extensively investigating the case, reviewing reports, records, and X-rays, conducting interviews, and conferring with attorneys and independent medical experts.

Cheyenne Benthin - Gilbert, AZ
Cheynne Benthin faced a parent’s worst nightmare, the death of a child due to illness. To compound this tragedy, Cheyenne Benthin’s surviving child was unjustly taken from her. Despite medical findings ruling out neglect, law enforcement would pursue criminal charges against her until You Are The Power rallied public support.
The charges were eventually dismissed, and Cheyenne was reunited with her surviving child.
Government Accountability

Joe Wood - Springerville, AZ
Joe Wood, a widowed Navy veteran, lives in an RV on his grandchildren’s property in Springerville, AZ. Tim Rassmussen, the town manager, had a problem with Joe living in his RV on his family’s property. He didn’t care what happened to Joe, he just wanted him gone.
You Are The Power members sprang into action, emailing Mr. Rasmussen, imploring him to discontinue his harassment of Joe Wood and his grandchildren, the Hightower family. The city suspended their actions against Joe and his family thanks to the public outcry.

Rebekah Massie - Surprise, AZ
Rebekah Massie had questions about how the Suprise, AZ city council was operating, specifically the level of compensation the City Attorney was receiving. She was trespassed and forcibly removed from chambers in front of her 12-year-old daughter thanks to a law Mayor Skip Hall had created barring criticism of the city council in meetings.
She teamed up with FIRE and You Are The Power to bring pressure, and a lawsuit, against the city for her treatment under this unconstitutional law. In the end, the mayor chose not to run again, and the city attorney resigned. Rebekah now serves You Are The Power as our Western Regional Organizer.

Sheriff Nathan Harmon - Berkely County, WV
Late at night on January 6, 2023, Sherriff Nathan Harmon’s daughter Carrie had an accident. Her car left the road at a sharp curve on Cemetery Rd in Martinsburg, WV, rolled through the front yard, fence, and over the retaining wall of a residence. Fortunately for Carrie, neither she nor anyone else was injured. What happened after the accident, however, raises quite a few questions.
You Are The Power followed this incident, posting a 5-part investigation speaking out about how an elected official can bend the law to keep a family member from facing the consequences of their actions. The attention this case received led to Sherriff Harmon resigning his post while facing investigation.

Joshua Rohrer - Gastonia, NC
When police in Gastonia, NC assaulted Joshua Rohrer, tased his service dog Sunshine, and then refused to release the body cam footage, activists reached out to Spike for help. Upon further research, his team discovered that the Gastonia City Council had also shut down the only homeless shelter in Gastonia, which was run by Pastor Moses Colbert. Determined to get justice, Spike has attended multiple City Council meetings and spoken directly with the Council Members, organized and spoken at multiple rallies, given interviews about the issues there, and he has pledged not to stop until we get justice for Joshua, Sunshine, Pastor Moses, and the entire community of Gastonia.

Russell Convalescent Home - Russell, KY
When the Russell City Council in Russell, KY tried to use eminent domain to seize a privately-owned convalescent home so they could build a parking lot, Spike worked with local activists to raise awareness on social media, contact local media, organize protests and speak directly to the Council about their objections.
When the home did eventually have to shut down, our previous media publicity ensured the residents were safely placed in new facilities.

Killing a Snitching Bill - Manatee County, FL
When the Manatee County Council considered a bill that would’ve tried to sidestep the Constitution by creating a weaponized snitching system, using abortion as their flimsy pretext to do so, Spike worked with local activists to speak to the Council (first publicly in session and then privately to individual Council Members), wrote an op-ed in the local paper, and ultimately killed the bill.
Supporting Charity

Be Kind Be Great - Columbia, SC
Be Kind Be Great saw a need and felt called to fill it. Every week, Ericka Brown and her team provide meals and assistance to the unhoused and marginalized members of their community. Assistance the city managers objected to. Police told what she was doing was blocking sidewalks, and, in the words of one councilman “creating an attractive nuisance.” Ericka was told they could no longer serve and would face fines, or worse, if they persisted.
You Are The Power members joined in the fight, helping via donations, service at feeding events, and speaking to the City Council on the needs of the community and the benefits of having groups like Be Kind Be Great ministering to those in need. The harassment has now stopped, and Ericka continues her mission.

Friends Feeding Friends - Clarksburg, WV
Friends Feeding Friends is an organization that has a simple mission: to support and strengthen the Clarksburg community by providing nourishment, comfort, and resources to those in need. Help which the city council objected to despite the service being privately organized and held on private property.
Our Northeast Regional Organizer, Tom Pinkh, gave an impassioned speech to the city council, found an amicable solution, and Friends Feeding Friends contiunes their mission.

Pleasant Hill Grace Place - Pleasant Hill, MO
An offshoot of the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, Grace Place has, to date, provided diapers and necessities to nearly 5,000 children in their sub-rural community since their inception in June, 2015. Privately funded with no assistance from any government agency, 100% of all donations go back out to those in need. The organizers of Grace Place, like You Are The Power, share the belief that private charities are the most effective way to help individuals within their communities.
One of the advantages of having a nation-wide network of members, You Are The Power can put out a call for donations and have a noticeable effect on causes. Combine this with our social media reach and small, local groups like Pleasant Hill Grace Place get a much-needed boost in funding.
